Treating elevated lipoprotein (a)

This study aims to learn more about a possible treatment for elevated lipoprotein (a). Lipoprotein (a) is a type of fat in your blood. Too much of it is not good for your health.

The study will investigate whether a new drug can reduce problems like heart attack or stroke in adults with elevated lipoprotein (a). It will see whether it works better than a placebo and what the possible side effects are.

You may be able to take part if you

have a high lipoprotein (a) level
have had heart problems such as a heart attack or a stroke in the past
you are at risk of having heart problems

You will not be allowed to take part in this study if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or you plan to father a child during the study. This is because there may be unknown risks to your embryo, foetus, or nursing infant.

This study will last about four years for each participant. Taking part in the study involves attending regular clinic appointments to receive the study medication. It is given to you via an injection under the skin. You will receive the first 3 doses every 6 months and the remaining doses every 12 months.
