Radial is a clinical trial for adults living with type 2 diabetes for at least one year using long-acting insulin.
The aim of this study is to look at a new way of conducting research. We want to see if ‘decentralised’ (also called ‘virtual’ or ‘remote access’) trials work as well as traditional, clinic-based trials.
Decentralised trials are studies in which people participate from their own homes using modern technologies. In traditional trials, people must to come into a clinic or hospital to take part.
The study requires switching your long-acting insulin to a brand called Toujeo, which may have some benefits due to the longer duration of action. Joining the clinical trial may improve your blood glucose control, although this is not guaranteed. This trial can also help change the way clinical trials are designed in the future, making it more convenient for people to take part.
You do not need to attend a clinic to participate in this study. All appointments will take place remotely via a combination of video and telephone calls. There will be seven appointments over a six month period.
You may be able to take part if:
- You are aged 18 or over
- You have been living with type 2 diabetes for at least one year
- You are treated with a stable long-acting insulin for at least 3 months
- If you take any non-insulin antidiabetic medication, the dose has been stable for the past 3 months
- You have access to a tablet or smartphone
- You have access to an internet connection
